Crucible Heightmap troubleshooting
Most issues come down to the first-run download, your internet connection, or antivirus. Crucible Heightmap runs on Windows 10 and 11 and updates itself inside the app.
Windows SmartScreen blocked the installer
Section titled “Windows SmartScreen blocked the installer”On the first run, Windows may show a “Windows protected your PC” warning. That is Windows SmartScreen being cautious with an app it has not seen many downloads of yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. You only see it once. Crucible Heightmap is scanned clean on VirusTotal and submitted to Microsoft, and the warning fades as the app builds reputation. More detail on the install and activate page.
My license key will not activate
Section titled “My license key will not activate”- Paste the whole key, with no leading or trailing spaces.
- Use the key from your receipt email or the billing portal.
- Activation needs an internet connection.
- Make sure your subscription is active (not canceled or expired).
- If both PC slots are used, deactivate an old PC first (see below).
It says my license is already active on 2 PCs
Section titled “It says my license is already active on 2 PCs”One license covers 2 PCs. To move to a new machine, open Settings > Subscription > Deactivate this PC on the old computer to free a slot, then activate on the new one with the same key. See Settings and subscription.
The app will not open or launch
Section titled “The app will not open or launch”- The first launch downloads the app, so you need internet on first run.
- Check your antivirus did not quarantine it. Crucible is clean on VirusTotal and recognized by Microsoft Defender; if another antivirus flagged it, restore or allow the file.
- Make sure it is not already running (check the system tray and Task Manager).
- Re-run the installer. Your projects and settings are kept.
The 3D preview is black or will not render
Section titled “The 3D preview is black or will not render”Update Windows and your graphics drivers, and on Windows 10 make sure the WebView2 runtime is installed (it usually comes with Microsoft Edge). Then restart the app.
An update is stuck or will not install
Section titled “An update is stuck or will not install”Close and reopen the app, check your internet, then use Settings > Subscription > Check for updates. Updates install in the background and keep your projects. As a last resort, re-run the installer.
I lost my license key
Section titled “I lost my license key”Your key is in your purchase receipt email, the billing portal, or your Lemon Squeezy orders page (log in with your purchase email). See lost license key.
My projects or seeds are missing
Section titled “My projects or seeds are missing”Open Settings > Folders to find your Projects, Output and Seeds folders, each with an Open button. If you lost unsaved work, the app offers autosave recovery on the next launch. See projects and autosave.
Still stuck?
Section titled “Still stuck?”Post in the Discord server bug and feedback forum. It helps to include your log file, found under Settings > Folders > Logs (launcher-log.txt).
